Bavaria faces heat wave as Siebenschläfer rule predicts up to 38°C

The traditional Siebenschläfer farmer’s rule, which has a 60‑70% hit rate in southern Germany, is now in its decisive phase. Meteorologist Johannes Habermehl of Meteored explained that the pattern‑setting period runs until July 10, after which the prevailing air flow is expected to remain stable for several weeks.

The German Weather Service (DWD) forecasts a marked rise in temperatures in Bavaria starting Thursday, July 9. Southern regions are expected to see highs of 27‑32 °C, while the northern part may reach 33‑35 °C. Short‑term projections also allow for brief thunderstorms near the Alpine foothills. The forecast highlights a possible peak of up to 38 °C later in the week, signalling the onset of the next heat wave.

The weather outlook aligns with the Siebenschläfer rule’s prediction that the summer will become hotter in the region, a trend that the DWD’s temperature trend analysis confirms.
