Bavaria food fish production rises to 5,046 tonnes in 2025

Bavarian aquaculture production of food fish reached approximately 5,046 tonnes in 2025, marking a 2.7 percent increase compared to the previous year, according to the Bavarian State Office for Statistics.

Common carp remains the most significant species, accounting for 33.1 percent of total production with 1,672 tonnes, despite a 2.5 percent decline in its volume. In contrast, rainbow trout production rose by 7.4 percent to 1,440 tonnes, representing 28.5 percent of the total output.

Production is highly concentrated; while large-scale aquaculture businesses (producing over five tonnes annually) make up only 12.1 percent of all Bavarian aquaculture enterprises, they are responsible for 78 percent of the total food fish volume. Geographically, the Unterallgäu district is the most productive in the state, yielding roughly 540 tonnes of food fish.
