Bavaria promotes dog-friendly tourism and swimming events

Bavaria is seeing a rise in pet-friendly seasonal activities, ranging from specialized tourism regions to dedicated swimming events for dogs.

The Passau Land region is positioning itself as a destination for dog owners, offering landscapes along the Danube, Inn, and Ilz rivers that provide space for exercise and cooling off. The area features various accommodations tailored to travelers with pets, alongside hiking opportunities in the Bavarian Forest, such as the Buchberger Leite gorge.

Additionally, numerous outdoor swimming pools across Bavaria, including those in Munich, Augsburg, Nuremberg, and Bad Tölz, are hosting ‘dog swimming days.’ These events typically take place in the early autumn after regular human swimming seasons have ended. While rules regarding vaccination records, liability insurance, and leash requirements vary by location, some facilities use the proceeds from these events to support animal shelters and animal welfare organizations.
