Bavaria public transport services expand in 2025

Public transport services in Bavaria saw an increase in scheduled kilometers in 2025. Total scheduled distances for buses and trains reached 682 million kilometers, representing a 3.0 percent increase compared to 2024.

Growth was most significant in rural areas, where scheduled kilometers rose by 4.8 percent to 358 million. In the peri-urban areas surrounding major centers, the offering increased by 1.9 percent to 164 million kilometers. In contrast, metropolitan areas maintained a relatively stable level of approximately 133 million kilometers.

Transport Minister Christian Bernreiter noted that 38.4 percent of public transport in rural regions is now demand-driven, utilizing flexible services such as on-call buses. While the increase in scheduled kilometers indicates expanded service, critics have noted that this metric does not account for actual passenger volume or vehicle occupancy rates.
