Bavaria reports lowest traffic fatalities in 70 years

Bavaria has recorded its lowest number of traffic fatalities in the first half of the year in 70 years. According to the Ministry of the Interior, 205 people died between January and June.

Despite the decrease in fatalities, the total number of traffic accidents rose by 3.4 percent to 192,366 compared to the same period last year. The number of injured persons remained relatively stable, with 29,304 recorded injuries.

Most fatal accidents occurred on rural roads, accounting for 135 deaths. Bicycle-related accidents resulted in 40 fatalities. Interior Minister Joachim Herrmann noted an increase in deaths caused by excessive speeding, with 71 fatalities compared to 66 in the previous year's first half. Herrmann also issued an appeal regarding child safety following the death of a child due to improper restraint.
