Bavaria reviews Nature Conservation Act and bee protection progress

The Bavarian Nature Conservation Act is undergoing significant scrutiny and legislative review following the successful ‘Rettet die Bienen!’ (Save the Bees!) referendum held seven years ago. Representatives from the ÖDP and LBV Bayern are scheduled to present an interim assessment on September 23 to evaluate the progress made in protecting biodiversity and to identify remaining deficits in species and habitat preservation.

Simultaneously, the Bavarian Cabinet has approved an amendment to the Nature Conservation Act, which the State Parliament is expected to debate through the end of 2026. The Bavarian Farmers' Association (BBV) has called for greater practicality and voluntary measures within these regulations. The BBV is advocating for the removal of certain restrictions, such as specific mowing regulations and blanket grassland prohibitions, to better align with EU agricultural funding laws and to reduce administrative burdens on farmers.
