Bavaria offers free transport and discounts to top‑grade students in summer 2026
Students in Bavaria who receive at least one grade "1" in their annual report card can travel for free on the Bayerische Seenschifffahrt ships throughout the Bavarian summer holidays, from 1 August to 14 September 2026. The free rides apply on the lakes Starnberger See, Ammersee, Tegernsee and Königssee and are available to pupils up to 17 years old when accompanied by a paying adult. A copy or the original report card must be shown at the ticket office; the tickets are non‑transferable.
On 3 August 2026 the same pupils can also travel for free on any local train in Bavaria in second class. In addition, a range of retailers in the state reward top grades with special offers: Intersport gives a free T‑shirt for a sport‑grade 1, MediaMarkt and Saturn grant a €1 discount per grade 1 or 2, Möbel Höffner a €5 voucher per grade 1 (max €30), and Thalia a €5 voucher for a grade 1 in German or an improvement.
The program was announced by Finance and Home Minister Albert Füracker as a way to recognise excellent school performance.
