Bavaria Social Minister urges municipalities to maintain childcare fees

Bavarian Social Minister Ulrike Scharf has stated there is no reason for municipalities to increase childcare (Kita) fees for parents, citing record levels of state funding. The state is providing approximately three billion euros in operating cost subsidies this year, a ten percent increase, with projections suggesting a twenty-five percent increase by 2029 compared to 2025.

To fund these higher subsidies, the state government has eliminated the Bavarian family allowance and certain state subsidies for childcare fees to reduce bureaucracy. While the ministry intends for these savings to flow directly to childcare facilities, local providers and municipalities warn that rising personnel and operating costs are outstripping the increased state support. Consequently, many financially strained municipalities may still feel compelled to raise fees for parents.
