Bavaria to extend Palantir police software contract

The Bavarian Ministry of the Interior has announced plans to extend its contract with the US-based software company Palantir. The extension concerns the VeRA analysis program, which is used by police to evaluate large volumes of data.

Although the current contract is set to expire in April 2027, the state intends to exercise its option to extend the agreement by one year. Officials stated that while the long-term goal remains achieving digital sovereignty and finding German or European alternatives, the state cannot currently forgo the analytical capabilities provided by Palantir.

Bavaria holds the option to extend the contract up to four times in one-year increments. The ministry noted that it is closely monitoring market developments and participating in federal and state-level efforts to identify suitable domestic or European software solutions.
