Bavaria will maintain separate denominational religious instruction in most schools, despite Lower Saxony's move to merge Protestant and Catholic classes. Church representatives Stefan Blumtritt and Matthias Belafi stated that there are currently no indications that other federal states will follow Lower Saxony's model.

However, an exception exists through the 'religious instruction with extended cooperation' (RUmeK) model at primary and middle schools. This allows Catholic and Protestant students to attend joint classes when a single denomination cannot form its own group due to regional factors, changing student numbers, or teacher shortages.

In the previous school year, approximately 42,380 students in Bavaria participated in the RUmeK model across roughly 600 schools. Statistics from the same period show that 601,000 students attended Catholic religion, 264,000 attended Protestant religion, and 471,000 attended ethics classes.
