Bavarian agricultural yields decline due to drought

Agricultural yields in Bavaria have faced significant challenges this year due to extreme heat and drought. According to the State Office for Statistics, the grain harvest is estimated at 5.6 million tons, which is approximately 13 percent lower than in 2025. This marks one of the three worst harvests in recent decades, surpassed only by 2024 and the heatwave of 2003.

Winter wheat has been particularly hard hit, with production dropping by nearly a quarter compared to the previous year. Despite the lower volume, experts expressed satisfaction with the quality of bread grains, such as wheat and rye, as well as malting barley. The potato harvest is also facing difficult conditions due to ongoing dryness.
