Bavarian agriculture focuses on climate resilience and future planning

Agricultural stakeholders in Bavaria are addressing climate change through both practical land management and long-term strategic planning.

Experts from the UNESCO Biosphere Reserve Rhön and local conservation authorities are hosting an online seminar focused on the benefits of hedgerows. These natural barriers are highlighted as tools to combat soil erosion, reduce wind speeds, and mitigate evaporation while promoting biodiversity. Due to legislative changes in 2023 and new funding opportunities in Bavaria, the installation of hedgerows has become a more viable option for landowners to increase climate resilience.

In a broader strategic context, the Bavarian Farmers' Association (Bayerischer Bauernverband) has initiated a dialogue process regarding the future of agriculture in the region through the year 2040. This initiative uses a discussion paper containing ten theses to explore potential scenarios for the industry in response to global crises, climate change, and water scarcity. The process aims to engage members and volunteers in shaping the long-term perspectives of Bavarian farming.
