Bavarian Association of Cities meets in Ingolstadt
Members of the Bavarian Association of Cities in Upper Bavaria met in Ingolstadt for a district assembly to discuss pressing municipal political issues and elect new leadership.
Michael Kern, the Mayor of Ingolstadt, was elected as the district chairman for independent member cities in Upper Bavaria. Alexander Greulich, the First Mayor of Ismaning, was elected as the district chairman for district-affiliated members.
The assembly highlighted a growing structural financial imbalance facing municipalities. Leaders noted that while responsibilities are expanding—including hospital financing, healthcare structures, housing shortages, school improvements, childcare, mobility transitions, and climate adaptation—tax revenues are not keeping pace with rising expenditures. This financial pressure limits the ability of local governments to make necessary investments in essential public services and infrastructure.
