Bavarian authorities promote emergency preparedness and disaster resilience
Authorities and emergency services in Bavaria are emphasizing the importance of personal preparedness for emergencies such as power outages, floods, or wildfires. In the Pfaffenhofen district, the local administration is distributing the Federal Office of Civil Protection and Disaster Assistance (BBK) guide, ‘Vorsorgen für Krisen und Katastrophen’ (Preparing for Crises and Disasters). The brochure, available in print at local service centers and municipalities or digitally via the BBK website, provides advice on maintaining food, water, medicine, and document reserves.
Additionally, the Johanniter organization is highlighting the necessity of private preparedness in light of the International Day for Disaster Risk Reduction. They note that having essential supplies and a well-stocked first-aid kit can alleviate pressure on emergency services when they reach capacity during large-scale incidents. In the Rosenheim district, the Johanniter operate rapid response groups to support regular rescue services and are currently developing a specialized unit to treat patients exposed to chemical, biological, radiological, or nuclear hazards.
