Bavarian cities implement anti-adhesive coatings to combat sticker vandalism

Cities in Bavaria are implementing new measures to combat sticker vandalism on traffic signs. In Augsburg, a pilot project has replaced 162 heavily affected signs at Moritzplatz with new versions featuring a rough, anti-adhesive surface designed to prevent stickers from adhering.

The cost of cleaning and replacing vandalized signs is significant. In Rosenheim, removing stickers cost nearly 40,000 euros last year, excluding the cost of sign replacements. In Munich, approximately 8,700 traffic signs are reported annually to have damage from stickers or graffiti. The Bavarian Ministry of Transport noted that these incidents are particularly frequent in major metropolitan regions.
