Bad Tölz 16‑m climbing tower and Tirschenreuth brewery conversion open new German climbing hubs

The DAV Kletter‑ und Boulderzentrum Oberbayern Süd in Bad Tölz will add a 16‑metre high, all‑sides climbable tower as part of a major outdoor‑area renovation. The project will raise the total number of routes to over 100, with up to 63 routes on the new tower, and provides a new outdoor seating and green space. The upgraded facilities are slated to open in spring 2027.

In the Upper Palatinate town of Tirschenreuth, an old brewery tower has been repurposed into a climbing centre for the German Alpine Club. The conversion retains the historic building shell while adding a 14‑metre high, light‑filled climbing hall with 60 indoor routes and 20 exterior routes, covering 590 m². The design emphasises sustainability, employing an ice‑storage system, solar‑thermal heating and photovoltaics to achieve near‑grid‑independent operation.
