Bavarian economy shows signs of stabilization despite investment concerns
Economic sentiment in Bavaria shows signs of stabilization, though a robust recovery remains uncertain. According to the Bavarian Association of Industry and Commerce (BIHK), the business climate index rose by four points to 105 in the autumn. While BIHK Managing Director Manfred Gößl noted that the trough appears to have been passed, he emphasized that a true upswing is not yet evident due to a lack of reforms and investment.
Despite a better assessment of the current situation, businesses are hesitant to invest, which BIHK President Peter Inselkammer described as a warning signal for the region. Key concerns for companies include economic policy frameworks, energy and raw material prices, and labor costs. Notably, the reported shortage of skilled workers has reached its lowest level since surveys began.
In the Allgäu region, the craftsmanship sector remains stable but faces challenges. A survey by the Swabia Chamber of Skilled Crafts for the third quarter of 2026 shows that 86 percent of businesses rate their situation as good or satisfactory. However, order intake is declining, and cost pressures remain high. While sectors like construction and food crafts show positive sentiment, consumer-facing services are feeling the impact of reduced customer spending.
