Bavarian Farmers' Association addresses agricultural and land use challenges
The Bavarian Farmers' Association (BBV) is addressing several critical challenges facing the agricultural sector in Germany. Federal Agriculture Minister Alois Rainer recently met with BBV representatives to discuss the liquidity crisis affecting farmers, particularly pig farmers, due to drought, high costs, and falling producer prices. While the Minister expressed understanding, concrete federal aid has yet to be finalized.
In the energy sector, the BBV is advocating for the involvement of local farmers and landowners in wind energy projects in Upper Franconia to ensure local value retention. This follows federal mandates to increase wind energy land use.
Additionally, the BBV has raised concerns regarding land consumption by infrastructure projects. Specifically, the association criticized Deutsche Bahn's plans for a new ICE maintenance facility in the Allersberg/Pyrbaum area, noting that the project could consume up to 45 hectares of arable land, equivalent to the size of an average Bavarian farm.
