Bavarian Greens propose high-tech energy agenda

The Bavarian Green Party parliamentary group has proposed a high-tech energy agenda aimed at making the region independent of oil and gas. The proposal, titled ‘Freiheitsenergien’ (Freedom Energies), was adopted during the faction's autumn retreat in Nuremberg.

Key components of the plan include the expansion of large-scale heat pumps, increased geothermal energy use, and the development of Germany's first green hydrogen power plant. The faction also advocates for increased solar and wind energy production, alongside the implementation of battery storage and intelligent grids.

To benefit consumers, the Greens suggest a regulation allowing electricity customers to profit from low or negative market prices during periods of high solar production. Specifically, they propose a free midday electricity quota during times of negative exchange prices to encourage the use of electric vehicles, heat pumps, and battery storage rather than curtailing solar installations.
