Bavarian Minister addresses rising antisemitism in Dorfen workshop

Bavarian Social Minister Ulrike Scharf attended an antisemitism prevention workshop in Dorfen to engage with volunteers and members of the Jewish community. Scharf noted a massive increase in antisemitic incidents and attacks, particularly following the Hamas massacre in Israel on October 7, 2023.

During the event, Scharf emphasized that the state of Bavaria will not tolerate hate, incitement, or violence against Jewish people, stating that Jewish life in the region must be secure. She highlighted the critical role of civic courage and volunteer work in combating antisemitism.

Dr. Ludwig Spaenle, the Bavarian government's representative for Jewish life and antisemitism, also participated, noting that antisemitism exists throughout society and requires courageous intervention from all sectors. The workshop, titled ‘Blickwechsel’, is organized by the Landesnetzwerk Bürgerschaftliches Engagement (LBE Bayern) and has been supported by the Bavarian Ministry of Social Affairs since 2021 in cooperation with RIAS Bayern and local Jewish communities.
