Bavarian mycological events focus on fungi identification and safety
Various mycological events and educational programs are taking place in Bavaria, Germany, focusing on the identification and cultivation of fungi.
At the Amerang Open Air Museum, expert Till R. Lohmeyer conducted a lecture and consultation session. Lohmeyer emphasized the critical importance of safety when foraging, warning against tasting unknown mushrooms to identify them. He noted that certain deadly species, such as the death cap, can taste good, making absolute certainty essential before consumption. He highlighted the vast diversity of fungi in Southeast Upper Bavaria, noting over 4,000 species in the region.
Additionally, the University of Bayreuth is hosting the 3rd Bayreuth Mushroom Days on October 10 and 11, 2026. Organized by the Ecological-Botanical Garden and university chairs for agroecology and fungal ecology, the event focuses on ‘unobtrusive mushrooms’ that play vital roles in ecosystems. The program includes exhibitions, guided tours, workshops on cultivation for beginners, and expert lectures designed for visitors of all ages and knowledge levels.
