Bavarian Police Deploy Hundreds in Separate Search Operations

On 25 July 2026, police and rescue services launched a large‑scale search at Hammersee near Bodenwöhr in Bavaria after passersby found abandoned clothing items, including a bikini, rain jacket, shorts, towel and shoes. About 100 water‑rescue personnel, fire‑brigade crews, the Edelweiß unit, a police helicopter, a drone and sonar equipment were deployed. No missing person was identified and the operation was called off around 02:00 h.

Two days later, following a domestic‑violence call in Heiligenstadt, Oberfranken, police conducted a major response that involved helicopters, special‑forces units and numerous patrol cars. The family fled the scene; after several hours their vehicle was located on the A73 and stopped near the B22 close to Bamberg. The father was taken into custody and a female family member was treated for injuries. The criminal police have opened an investigation.
