Bavarian Sport Prize 2026 honors athletes and coaches

The 2026 Bavarian Sport Prize was held in Munich, honoring outstanding achievements and initiatives across eight different categories. The annual awards, presented by the Bavarian State Government, recognize excellence in both professional and amateur sports, including parasports and youth development.

In the football category, Vincent Kompany, head coach of FC Bayern, received the Prime Minister's Personal Prize, presented by Minister-President Markus Söder. In winter sports, bobsled pilot Johannes Lochner and pusher Georg Fleischhauer were honored in the ‘Sporting Moments for Eternity’ category following their successful performances at the Winter Olympics and their overall World Cup victory.

The ceremony, held at the BMW Welt auditorium, highlighted various disciplines, with a particular focus on winter athletes due to the recent Olympic and Paralympic Winter Games in Milan and Cortina d’Ampezzo.
