Bavarian State Honors Local Officials with Silver Commendation Medals
The Free State of Bavaria has awarded the Silver Municipal Merit Medal to former mayors Margareta Böckh and Dr. Hans-Martin Steiger. The ceremony, hosted by the Bavarian Ministry of the Interior in Augsburg, recognized their long-standing commitment to local self-governance.
Margareta Böckh was honored for her three decades of service to the city of Memmingen, including over 15 years as deputy mayor. Notably, she managed the city's administrative affairs for 83 days following the unexpected death of Mayor Markus Kennerknecht in 2016. Interior and Municipal Affairs Secretary Sandro Kirchner praised the recipients for their work in building community trust and maintaining stable, livable local environments.
