Bavarian waterfalls offer scenic hiking destinations

Bavaria offers several notable waterfalls that serve as popular destinations for summer excursions and family outings.

The Röthbachfall, located in Berchtesgaden National Park, is Germany’s highest waterfall, standing at 470 meters. It is one of the tallest in the Alpine region and can be reached via a boat trip across Königssee to Saletalm, followed by a three-kilometer hike to the Fischunkelalm.

In the Allgäu region, the Lechfall near Füssen provides a different experience. This wide waterfall drops approximately twelve meters over five steps. While it is a natural attraction, it is actually an overflow from a man-made weir that has been used for electricity generation since the 18th century. The site is easily accessible via a short 1.5-kilometer walk from Füssen.
