Bawaslu Solo sued over Joko Widodo diploma validity
The Solo Election Supervisory Body (Bawaslu Solo) has been sued in the Central Jakarta District Court regarding the administrative validity of the educational diplomas used by Indonesia's seventh president, Joko Widodo. The lawsuit, registered under case number 395/Pdt. G/2026/PN Jkt. Pst, was filed by Bonatua Silalahi and Moeryono Aladin.
The plaintiffs allege that Bawaslu Solo failed in its oversight duties concerning the administrative requirements for Widodo's various political candidacies, including his roles as Mayor of Solo, Governor, and President. A central claim involves the legality of diploma copies, which the plaintiffs argue lack clear authentication dates, potentially violating Permendiknas Number 59 of 2008.
In addition to Bawaslu Solo, the lawsuit names several other entities as defendants, including the General Elections Commission (KPU), KPU DKI Jakarta, KPU Solo, Bawaslu DKI Jakarta, and Universitas Gadjah Mada (UGM). Bawaslu Solo's Legal and Dispute Resolution Coordinator, Puji Setyo Santoso, stated that the agency is preparing legal arguments and exceptions to address the claims, expressing optimism that their defense will be accepted by the judges.
