Bawaslu testifies at Constitutional Court regarding Gibran’s education requirements
Bawaslu Chairman Rahmat Bagja testified at the Constitutional Court that the agency found no reports or indications of violations regarding Vice President Gibran Rakabuming Raka’s educational requirements during the 2024 election. Bagja clarified that while other reports regarding candidate determination were received, such as one on November 20, 2023, they did not meet the necessary material requirements for registration.
The Constitutional Court is currently hearing a lawsuit filed by Denny Indrayana and 11 other petitioners. The group alleges that KPU Regulation No. 19 of 2023 was manipulated to allow Gibran to run for office, specifically regarding provisions for candidates educated abroad. In response, Constitutional Court Judge Saldi Isra has requested that the KPU provide complete minutes and evidence from the discussions surrounding the revision of the regulation.
