Bawku MP's silence is a peace strategy, says NDC legal member

Nelson Nobel Amedewonu, a member of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) legal team, has defended the silence of the Member of Parliament for the Bawku constituency regarding the region's long-standing conflict. Amedewonu argues that the MP's decision to refrain from public commentary is a deliberate strategy intended to protect peace and avoid fueling tensions.

According to Amedewonu, the Bawku conflict is a generational dispute that predates the current MP's tenure. He cautioned that any public statement could be misinterpreted by either faction as an endorsement of their specific position, which could deepen the divide. He suggested that the MP's role is to act as a statesman, working ‘underground’ to maintain the confidence of all constituents.

Amedewonu further noted that the MP's ability to secure votes from both sides of the conflict serves as a litmus test for his approach, suggesting that his neutral stance is accepted by the people he represents.
