Bawku Municipality motorbike restrictions Upper East Region Ghana security curfew

The government has eased motorbike riding restrictions in the Bawku Municipality and surrounding areas of the Upper East Region. Effective August 25, 2026, both men and women are permitted to ride motorbikes daily between 6:00 a.m. and 6:00 p.m.

This decision was made by the Minister for the Interior following advice from the National Security Council and was implemented through an Executive Instrument. The move aims to balance security concerns with the need for residents to have greater freedom of movement and access to transportation.

Despite the changes to motorbike usage, several security measures remain in place. A curfew continues to be enforced from 10:00 p.m. to 5:00 a.m. daily. Additionally, a total ban on the possession and carrying of arms, ammunition, and other offensive weapons within the municipality and its environs remains strictly in effect. Authorities have warned that anyone found in violation of the weapons ban will be arrested and prosecuted.
