Bay leaves may help lower blood glucose levels
Bay leaves may offer significant health benefits, particularly regarding blood glucose regulation. A 2009 study involving 40 participants with type 2 diabetes found that consuming 1 to 3 grams of powdered bay leaves daily for 30 days resulted in fasting glucose levels decreasing by approximately 21-26% compared to a placebo group.
Beyond glucose management, bay leaves have traditionally been used in herbal medicine to alleviate indigestion and feelings of heaviness after meals. They can be prepared as a simple infusion by crushing approximately 1 gram of dried leaves and steeping them in 250 ml of boiling water for about 15 minutes.
