Bay of Bengal weather systems trigger coastal warnings in Sri Lanka and India

Authorities in Sri Lanka and India have issued warnings regarding hazardous maritime and weather conditions due to active systems in the Bay of Bengal.

In Sri Lanka, warnings for strong winds and rough seas have been issued for several coastal areas. The advisory urges fishermen and smallcraft operators to avoid unnecessary exposure to the sea and recommends that those currently at sea return to shore promptly to avoid risks from rough swells.

Simultaneously, a low-pressure area has formed over the Bay of Bengal under the influence of a cyclonic circulation. In Odisha, India, this system is expected to increase rainfall activity and lead to higher wind speeds along coastal regions. Meteorological departments are monitoring the system's intensity and track, advising fishermen to exercise caution due to expected rough sea conditions.
