Bayaguana Sports Complex: 35 televisions stolen from medalists

Thirty-five 55-inch plasma televisions were stolen from the Bayaguana Sports Complex in Monte Plata during the early hours of Sunday. The equipment, valued at over 600,000 pesos, was intended as prizes for local athletes and coaches who earned medals at the Santo Domingo 2026 Central American and Caribbean Games.

The donation was provided by Juan Hubieres, a former deputy and president of Fenatrano, to recognize the achievements of the Bayaguana sports community. The official presentation ceremony, which was to include a lunch and musical performance by the group Son de Cuba, was scheduled for the same day as the theft.

National Police and members of the Central Directorate of Criminal Investigations (Dicrim) have arrived at the scene to collect evidence. Authorities are currently reviewing security camera footage to identify the perpetrators and determine their escape route. Preliminary investigations suggest that several individuals may be linked to the crime, and arrests may follow.
