Bayburt families face structural damage from persistent water leakage

Families in the Veysel neighborhood of Bayburt are facing structural instability due to continuous water leakage from their home foundations. The issue, which began around September of last year, has caused significant damage, including cracks and swelling in walls, broken bathroom tiles, and moldy flooring.

Suzan Koçyiğit, a resident, reported that the family has been unable to use one of the rooms in their 3+1 house because the humidity and mold pose a health risk to her 10-year-old daughter, who suffers from asthma. The family expressed concern for their safety as the damage persists.

According to the residents, the local municipality initially refused to intervene, claiming the water was spring water rather than part of the municipal network. While municipal teams eventually conducted work by excavating a nearby road, the family claims that the use of a roller compactor during these repairs actually worsened the situation by creating additional cracks in the building.
