Bayelsa Deputy Governor Akpe advocates for Ijaw cultural preservation

Bayelsa State Deputy Governor Dr. Peter Akpe has called for the preservation of Ijaw cultural heritage, warning against the infiltration of alien practices into traditional marriage and burial rites. During a condolence visit to the Tule family in Sagbama Local Government Area following the death of Mrs. Agreement Tule, Akpe expressed concern that borrowed customs are replacing authentic Ijaw traditions.

In a separate condolence visit in Azikoro Town, Dr. Akpe also commiserated with Chief Timothy Itiedu, chairman of the state environmental sanitation authority, over the passing of his father, Chief Alfred Itiedu. Akpe praised the late Chief Itiedu for his contributions to the development of the Azikoro community and the state, urging the family to find solace in his enduring legacy.
