Bayelsa Governor and Deputy Governor urge Ijaw youth council and women to lead constructive advocacy and social change

Governor Douye Diri of Bayelsa State addressed the newly inaugurated 10th National Executive Council of the Ijaw Youth Council (IYC) at Ijaw House in Yenagoa, urging the body to emulate the late Major Isaac Adaka Boro’s principled stance. He called for strident, firm and constructive advocacy focused on environmental justice, citing the Bayelsa State Oil and Environment Commission’s recommendations, and emphasized dialogue and mutual respect with government, industry and traditional institutions.

Deputy Governor Peter Akpe later met with a women’s support group, appealing for greater female participation in nation‑building. He highlighted the role of women and mothers in social engineering, promoting values such as contentment, responsibility and adherence to standards to address insecurity and societal challenges. Akpe advised women to avoid seeking political patronage, instead supporting leaders and fostering community development.
