Bayelsa police intensify operations following deadly cult clashes in Yenagoa
Renewed violence between rival cult groups, identified as the Bobos and Greenlanders, has broken out in Yenagoa, the capital of Bayelsa State. The clashes, which occurred in areas including St. Peter’s, Obele, Agudama, and Sand Road, have resulted in multiple fatalities. While initial reports varied on the death toll, some accounts suggest at least five people may have been killed.
In response to the violence, the Bayelsa State Police Command has deployed tactical teams and increased patrols in vulnerable neighborhoods. Police Public Relations Officer Musa Mohammed confirmed that suspects have been arrested and law and order have been restored in the affected areas.
Commissioner of Police Ajao Saka Adewale has ordered intensified operations across the state to combat cultism. The command is focusing on identifying emerging threats, monitoring recruitment, and engaging with community leaders to prevent further reprisal killings and maintain peace.
