Bayer implements target-driven research for crop protection
Bayer is implementing a new research approach called CropKey to develop crop protection solutions. This method focuses on designing molecules based on specific biological targets while integrating efficacy, safety profiles, and cost-effectiveness from the earliest stages of development.
Utilizing artificial intelligence and data analysis, the approach aims to address challenges such as climate change, evolving diseases, and increasing environmental regulations. The strategy is being showcased at the La Dargoire research center near Lyon, where Bayer recently hosted journalists from Morocco, Algeria, and Tunisia to demonstrate the ecosystem.
Bayer's Crop Science division reported a global turnover of 21.6 billion euros in 2025, with 2 billion euros allocated to research and development. The division employed approximately 31,700 full-time equivalent employees as of December 31, 2025.
