Leverkusen responded quickly, with Ibrahim Maza equalizing in the 19th minute. The decisive goal came in the 76th minute from Patrik Schick, who tapped in after a solo run by Maza. With this goal, Schick became the first Leverkusen player to score in each of the first six matches of a Bundesliga season.

The win brings Leverkusen to 13 points, placing them level with Freiburg on points but ahead on goal difference. The result follows a period of strong form for Leverkusen, who have won three consecutive league matches.
