Bayer Leverkusen midfielder Kennet Eichhorn out with metabolic disorder

Seventeen‑year‑old Kennet Eichhorn, Bayer Leverkusen’s recent €9 million signing from Hertha BSC, has been diagnosed with a metabolic disorder after a severe gastro‑intestinal infection caused rapid weight loss. The club announced that Eichhorn will undergo treatment in a specialised clinic, with the duration of his absence still unknown. Sporting director Simon Rolfes said the club will support the young talent and give him the time needed for recovery. Eichhorn, regarded as one of Europe’s top prospects of his age group, was heavily pursued by clubs such as PSG, Real Madrid, Manchester City and Liverpool before joining Leverkusen. New head coach Carles Martínez had travelled to Berlin to finalise the transfer. The club’s medical team is monitoring his progress, but no timetable for his return to training has been provided.
