Bayer Leverkusen's Fernando Carro calls for end to Infantino's FIFA presidency

Fernando Carro, the managing director of Bayer Leverkusen, has publicly called for a leadership change at FIFA, stating, “We are now fighting against Infantino — and we have to win that.” Carro criticized the current administration of President Gianni Infantino, arguing that the world football governing body requires reliable leadership, transparency, and a genuine election in March.

Carro suggested that maintaining the status quo under Infantino would be the “worst result.” He noted that finding a viable challenger would be a challenge, but emphasized that a successful candidate must be able to win majorities outside of Europe to avoid perceptions of European arrogance.

As a potential successor, Carro identified Victor Montagliani, the president of CONCACAF and a member of the European Club Association (ECA) board. Carro noted that Montagliani is well-regarded in his current role, possesses deep knowledge of FIFA, and is non-European, which could help him secure broader international support.
