Bayer shares rise as US Supreme Court limits glyphosate liability

Bayer's stock improved following a decisive US Supreme Court ruling in the Durnell case, which limited the company's liability over glyphosate. Analyst Michael Leuten of Jefferies raised the target price to €46 from €40 while keeping a "hold" rating, citing the court’s 7‑to‑2 decision that Bayer cannot be held responsible for missing warnings if the US EPA does not require them. The share price traded around €47.23, slightly above the new target.

Jefferies notes that while the ruling eases legal risk, ongoing settlement negotiations remain unresolved, keeping overall uncertainty alive. The firm expects the decision to provide greater planning certainty and could mitigate billions in potential litigation costs, though the impact on existing settlement talks is still unclear.
