Bayer to invest $2.2 billion in new Ohio pharmaceutical site
Bayer is investing $2.2 billion to establish a new pharmaceutical manufacturing campus in New Albany, Ohio. The project aims to consolidate the production of drug substances and finished medicines, focusing on oncology, cardiovascular, and renal care portfolios.
The modular campus is expected to break ground in mid-2027. The first module for drug substance production is scheduled to become operational in 2031, followed by a second module for drug products in 2034. The expansion is projected to create approximately 600 high-value permanent jobs, with an additional 1,500 jobs expected during the construction phase.
CEO Bill Anderson stated that the United States serves as a critical hub for innovation and production for the company. This investment follows a period where Bayer has allocated over $7 billion toward research, development, and manufacturing within the U.S. over the last five years. To support the local workforce, initiatives like the biomanufacturing training program in central Ohio are being utilized to prepare technicians for these new roles.
