Bayer triumphs in US Supreme Court glyphosate case as pesticide approvals broaden

The US Supreme Court issued a 7‑2 ruling that limits state‑law lawsuits against Bayer over its Roundup weedkiller, concluding that plaintiffs cannot sue the company for failing to label glyphosate as a cancer risk. The decision lifted a major legal burden for Bayer, sending its shares to their highest rise in 23 years. Bayer, which bought Monsanto in 2018, has since consolidated its Roundup business into a new unit and is seeking duties on glyphosate imports from China.

In parallel, the pesticide industry secured additional regulatory wins. The EPA re‑approved the weedkiller dicamba for two growing seasons with new usage restrictions, while a US Fish and Wildlife Service opinion found atrazine does not threaten listed species. Environmental groups continue to criticize the chemicals, but the EPA argues the revised rules provide clearer guidance for farmers.
