Bayerischer Rundfunk launches AI-powered news assistant
Bayerischer Rundfunk (BR) has launched a beta version of an AI-powered news assistant, ‘Dein News-Assistent’, designed to help users grasp current news and background information more quickly. The application is available on the BR24 homepage and within selected web and app articles.
The tool utilizes a Retrieval-Augmented Generation (RAG) architecture, ensuring that all AI-generated summaries, timelines, and chat responses are based exclusively on previously published, journalistically verified content from BR24 and Tagesschau. The system is designed to cite and link directly to its sources to maintain transparency.
BR Director Katja Wildermuth stated that the assistant is intended to facilitate access to reliable journalism rather than replace editorial decision-making. The project also aims to create a shared knowledge pool and strengthen content networking within the ARD network.
