Baylor coach Dave Aranda discusses defensive investment and player health
Baylor head coach Dave Aranda addressed several key factors following the team's 23-13 victory over Colorado in the Big 12 opener. Ahead of the upcoming matchup against Arizona State, Aranda highlighted the team's defensive improvements, noting that the defense is currently allowing just 13.0 points per game and has recorded a league-high 15 sacks.
Aranda attributed the defensive success to coordinator Joe Klanderman and emphasized the role of financial investment in team performance. He stated, “You look at the offense the last two years, we spent a lot of money on that offense. And we're spending a lot of money on the defense right now. I think you just follow the money, you see where things are at.”
Regarding the offense, Aranda expressed confidence in quarterback DJ Lagway, who is returning from a sprained right ankle. While Lagway struggled with completion percentages in the previous game, Aranda expects him to play with more “fire and a hunger” this week. The coach also noted that maintaining health and consistency within the offensive line remains a primary goal for the team.
