Bayraktar TB3 demonstrates anti-submarine warfare capabilities
During the Denizkurdu-I/2026 naval exercise, conducted between September 20 and 25 across the Black Sea, Aegean, and Eastern Mediterranean, the Bayraktar TB3 unmanned combat aerial vehicle (UCAV) demonstrated significant anti-submarine warfare (ASW) capabilities. Operating from the flight deck of the amphibious assault ship TCG Anadolu, the TB3 successfully completed two sonobuoy launch tests using Baykar’s indigenously developed Sonobuoy Dispenser System (SAS POD).
A key technical milestone achieved during the mission was the TB3’s ability to process and integrate acoustic data. The UCAV successfully handled telemetry from both its own deployed sonobuoys and those released by a coordinated maritime patrol aircraft, providing real-time underwater data displays. This capability makes the Bayraktar TB3 one of the few unmanned platforms globally, following the US-made MQ-9B SeaGuardian, capable of performing such complex integrated ASW tasks.
The large-scale exercise involved approximately 14,000 personnel, 100 ships, and 50 aircraft from the Turkish Naval, Land, Air, and Coast Guard Commands to test joint interoperability and decision-making in high-threat environments.
