Bayramiç beyazı nectarine harvest begins in Çanakkale

Harvest has commenced for the ‘Bayramiç beyazı’ nectarines in the Bayramiç district of Çanakkale, Turkey. This specific variety, grown on the northern slopes of the Kaz Mountains, holds a European Union Geographical Indication registration.

Production is expected to reach 10,000 tons this year across approximately 7,000 decares of land. While this represents a 50 percent decrease in yield compared to the average annual production of 20,000 tons—due to spring rains affecting the flowering stage—the harvest is considered economically productive for growers.

Traders are purchasing the fruit based on quality, with prices starting at 50 Turkish Liras per kilogram, while early products have seen prices around 60 Liras. The nectarine is noted for its unique aroma and its ability to create its own market due to its distinct growing conditions.
