Bayside residents report alleged takeover of $1.1M Queens home

Residents of the Bayside neighborhood in Queens are expressing significant concern following the alleged takeover of a $1.1 million home by an illegal occupant identified as Vernon Glass. The property had remained vacant since the death of longtime resident Richard Klibschon in 2018, who had no immediate heirs.

According to local reports and court documentation, Glass allegedly moved into the residence in March 2024. Neighbors have reported feeling ‘increasingly apprehensive, uneasy and very concerned’ regarding the safety and quality of life in the community. U.S. Representative Tom Suozzi described the situation as a ‘fraudster is wrecking the quality of life for the entire neighborhood.’

Records indicate that Glass has a history of similar allegations. In 2018, he was involved in a case in Nassau County where he allegedly took over a vacant home and rented it to others; he subsequently pleaded guilty to lesser charges and received probation. Additionally, court records from 2023 show a lawsuit involving Glass and another individual regarding the forced entry of a property in Flushing, Queens, which reportedly led to the homeowners' property entering foreclosure.
