Baywa Bau- und Gartenmärkte files for insolvency
Baywa Bau- und Gartenmärkte, along with its parent company Hellweg, has filed for insolvency. This has triggered large-scale liquidation sales across 30 locations in Bavaria, including cities such as Nuremberg, Würzburg, and Regensburg. The sales, which began on September 7, include reduced prices on tools, building materials, paints, and garden equipment.
The insolvency affects 46 locations across Bavaria and Baden-Württemberg, impacting approximately 1,300 employees. While some locations may be taken over by competitors, an investor process is still ongoing. If no investors are found, these sites may close by the end of November 2026. The company cited high energy, rent, and operating costs, along with a weak construction market and consumer restraint, as primary reasons for the filing. This situation is distinct from the financial status of the parent company, BayWa AG, which was previously stabilized through an agreement with shareholders and creditors.
