Baywatch to return in reboot featuring Stephen Amell

The iconic television series ‘Baywatch’ is set to return in a reboot, potentially launching in January 2027. The new production is expected to be developed by Fox and likely released via a Disney-owned streaming service.

In a departure from the original series, the reboot will feature Stephen Amell, known for ‘Arrow’, playing the son of Mitch Buchannon, the character originally portrayed by David Hasselhoff.

Reflecting on the show's history, David Hasselhoff revealed that the series' signature slow-motion sequences were originally a budget-saving measure. Due to limited funds to complete full episodes, the production used slow motion to extend footage, a stylistic choice that ultimately became a global phenomenon. At its peak in 1996, ‘Baywatch’ reached an estimated 1.1 billion viewers weekly across 142 countries.
